RADIO & MORE
Every Thursday, 90mil radio is giving space for underrepresented sound formats. It delves into the powerful and transient nature of temporary spaces—focusing on the practice of Zwischennutzung (interim use) as a lens to explore larger cultural, social, and urban issues. You can listen to it on 90mil radio’s website here. Or via Soundcloud.
90mil is a temporary urban regeneration project near Jannowitzbrücke, Berlin that was founded in April 2023. For just over a year the collective has been transforming this 2000sqm site into a multidisciplinary space for creation and community - offering studios, exhibition space, performance venue, theatre, ceramics, movement studio, wood and metal workshop, community kitchen and garden - with a donation-based programme centered on public access; eclectic, unexpected and cross-disciplinary works; and international collaboration.
Although it is a temporary home (it will be demolished for development in early 2026) they see this as a rare opportunity to invigorate the underground cultural scene of Berlin, support local grassroots initiatives and create a unique hub of exchange. 90mil wants to foster a culture of inquisitiveness, creative innovation and nurturing where new people, ideas and perspectives flow freely through the space. As part of 90mil, the 90mil radio was founded in June 2024 and has received a small local culture fund to kickstart the radio and set it up. It is a space for underrepresented sound formats, giving airtime to those currently missing from the Berlin sonic ecosystem.
The new radio station nurtures concepts that focus on collaboration and cross-pollination both within and beyond the arts. It aims to platform often-forgotten areas of sound recording and live radio by delving deeper into theatre and poetry, spotlighting artistic practices and offering live music moments within their new recording space. The 90 mil radio team consists of Harry Silverlock (He /They), Hilary Cox (She/Her) and Sisi Savidge (She/Her).
